Abstract: The natural landscape of Boa Vista city is composed of a dense drainage network wich has been replaced by the urban sprawl that spreads upon watercourses, streams, swamps and lakes. This natural landscape has been the scene of population and city growth, more intensely since the 1980s. The main objective of this study is the spatial and temporal analysis of the landscape change from 1985 to 2014, using the geotechnologies of Boa Vista city (Roraima, Brazil), seeking for an understanding of the changes in this locality. To fulfil the aim were performed fieldwork, collection of points in GPS, photos, descriptions of the landscape and bibliographic review. The use of geotechnology was relevant in the analysis and treatment of Landsat 5 satellite images of the years 1985 and 1995, CBERS 2 of 2005 and Landsat 8 of 2013 and 2014, in wich atmospheric correction and image processing was made for supervised classification of soil use through MAXVER procedure (maximum verisimilitude). The drainage extraction and elaboration of sub-basins was made from the TOPODATA. The image use provides visualization and interpretation of changes in the lakes landscape as a result of urban sprawl. For the seven lakes were developed maps of APPs (permanent preservation areas) as a case study. The geographical science with the geotechnology assistance can support the decision-making process, pointing that the results of interpretative analysis of images are reliable, showing that the basins were changed with the density of the lakes, of which are springs. Therefore, are sensitive and important areas for local and regional water dynamics but yet their natural limits have been replaced by urban sprawl over the years. It is observed that the environmental authorities have been trying to avoid urban sprawling and illegal occupation to preserve the area around lakes. The analysis shows the need to monitor and implement joint actions by the government to inhibit the occupation of APPs and planning for the city’s growth in compliance with the legislation to avoid the disappearance of lakes and springs that are so important for the dynamics of the water bodies of Boa Vista. The importance of this research is the construction of new knowledge and information that may support the environmental and urban planning to ensure the preservation of the existing lakes.

Abstract: The main theme of this study is the “Beiral”, an area located on the right bank of the Rio Branco in Boa Vista-RR. The research was done on geographical analysis, the concepts of space, territory and territoriality. As a general goal, we sought to understand how the territoriality is the daily dynamics in "Eaves" and contribute to the reproduction of urban space in Boa Vista-RR. Kish was also verify by letter images from satellites the city limits of Eaves. Ascertain, through questionnaires, the perception of residents about Eaves and its territoriality. Identify the public policy of the municipal executive power to that area, which includes various individual and collective motivations and values competing in the occupation and land use.It is understood that seek the identity of the place is trying to understand the interweaving of words and concepts that give a shape to this space. In this perspective, finally, present, after a careful analysis of the data, some considerations about the process and reproduction of territoriality “Beiral”. The methodology used was the literature, questionnaires, informal conversations with residents and on-site observation. The spatial area of Eaves assumes importance and special significance to individuals living there. It is a rich scenario histories and geographies in which the social features are articulated.

<title>O significado do "novo" urbano na última fronteira amazônica</title>

<description>Título: O significado do "novo" urbano na última fronteira amazônica

Abstract: We propose in this research, analyze the place located in Rorainópolis – Nova Colina, State of Roraima, we seek to list the processes determining its genesis, economic growth, demographic, spatial and its significance in the last frontier Amazon. This place grew demographic, economic and spatial in the first decade of this century that differed from other places and cities of the rest of the state setting up a new role as a central location, despite being only a tiny nucleus at the margins of semi-rural highway BR- 174. Nova Colina is considered by the IBGE official classification as rural, even with the availability of this urban facilities, commercial activities and public services. We propose to identify it as urban space located in the Amazon last frontier settlement that leads to a redefinition for understanding the urban in Roraima. The research covers the time interval from the 1970s to the year 2012. The methodology used was the literature research on basic works, interviews and on-site observation. And as theoretical, approach the concept of place signed by Carlos (1996) and Santos (2006, 2008); urban network in the Amazon region by Corrêa (1987, 1989, 2001, 2010), Ribeiro (1997, 1998) and state context based in Amorim Filho and Diniz (2005a, 2005b), Silva and Silva (2004a, 2004b, 2005), Silva (2007), argue that the roraimense urban network has a primate and strong structure, with specifics that individualizes by having an urban macrocephaly due to the cumulative concentration in the capital and the solar way that organizes the network. The same is in the process of gestation in the regional context, showing little hierarchy and economic complementarity between the cities in Roraima. Although we rely on Becker (1994, 1988, 2006) and Machado (1999) that addresses urbanization and the labor market, since the border city in the Amazon born as part of the process of social occupation, territorial and geopolitical.
